Earthquake Strengthening

Earthquake strengthening 2024

The seismic strengthening project at St Luke’s is now complete and our beautiful church is now open again for worship. It took over two years from the time of the AGM approval in March 2022 to the completion of the project in June 2024.

The strengthening work was carried out by Quayle Construction Ltd who worked closely with Dunning Thornton Engineers. The nave and chancel have been strengthened, protecting the organ and the beautiful east-facing Memorial Window. The entire church floor has been refurbished. Also the historic organ has been cleaned and recommissioned after the strengthening work was completed.

We are very grateful for the support of a grant from the David Luke Heritage Bequest (administered by Heritage New Zealand), Lotteries Environment and Heritage Committee, a loan from the Diocese of Wellington, and individual donations. St Luke’s has contributed a significant sum from our own reserves.

If you would like to help support this project, we are grateful for donations.
